Letters from Jane Eyre offers the unique experience of a historical mystery in the form of letters, featuring the beloved characters of Charlotte Brontë’s famous novel.

My name is Leanne McKinley, and I’m the author of the Jane Rochester Mysteries. One of the many things I love about Charlotte Brontë’s Jane Eyre is the way her novel draws me back into the past. Writing from Jane’s perspective has given me an amazing opportunity to participate in history vicariously, but now I want to take the experience further.

I want to send you a new story, told by Jane herself, and sent to you by mail. Real letters, delivered to your mailbox.

You would receive a letter twice a month, written in Jane’s first-person style. Recipients receive 24 letters, so you would get two letters a month for 12 months. Each letter would contain another installment of a mystery involving Mr. Rochester and Jane, and each would be illustrated with Jane’s sketches to accompany the story.

Q: What are the letters like? A: I cannot write with the actual brilliance of Brontë herself, but I endeavor to come as close to her style as I can. The spelling is from the UK and the sentences are long and full of rich vocabulary.

Q: What age is this for? A: I think this would be best for ages 12 and up, depending on maturity. If a reader can handle Jane Eyre, than this will be suitable for them. There is no bad language or graphic scenes, but there is a wicked villain with a sordid past, as well as references to drunkenness.

Q: When do the letters arrive? A: I am still working out the logistics. I think new subscribers should expect to receive a letter within a week or two after placing an order. Every subsequent letter would be sent on the first or third Friday of the month, and consequently received by you a week or so later.

Q: Do I have to sign up at a special time of year? A: You can sign up at any time in the year, but when you have received the last letter, there will be no more coming. This is not an automatically renewable subscription. You only pay for twelve months.

Q: Can I sign up for this if I am not in the U.S.? A: I really want to send this internationally as well as in the United States. I plan to offer this at the same price to international customers. If you are outside the US, your letter will take approximately 6 weeks longer to arrive.

Q: What if I sign up and change my mind? A: I plan to offer a full refund for thirty days after purchase. You can refund for any reason at all. The letters you have received up to that time do not need to be returned.

Q: Do I need to read Jane Eyre first? Or your other novels? A: Letters from Jane Eyre constitutes a stand alone story. The main characters are taken from Jane Eyre, but everything pertinent to this story is explained. You can read it as a continuation of Jane Eyre, or just as an early 19th century mystery. One or two characters from a previous book of mine are mentioned, but they are also explained. Its perfectly fine to read this without reading my other novels first. However, the events in this story occur after The Recipient of Secrets, if you are really wanting to read my work in order.
